1/19/25. Short tracks around fences and woods
1/19/25. Laid these short tracks one at a time, ran him within 5 minutes and put him in the car to marinate while I laid the next one. Food drops varied between 10-15 steps apart. He got better with each track. Track #1. Struggled at the turn into tall cover https://youtu.be/imxw4lYuoHA?feature=shared Track #2 short track from tall cover to short towards fence https://youtu.be/bA4Q4ZZpGu4?feature=shared Track #3 Between 2 fences towards woods https://youtu.be/R9EverPLGJ8?feature=shared Track #4 Parallel woods and turn away https://youtu.be/88B4jnpOJYc?feature=shared

Warm day after cold, so scent likely rising. He didn’t care. Your handling was brilliant. Did you see at 4:30 when he was stumped he picked his head up and tried airscenting? And you, smartly, didn’t move until he resumed tracking. That’s another one to file away…. It’s the behavior he learned first, so if perplexed he may/is likely to try that approach. And you handled it perfectly. You could legally do that in a test, no problem.
ReplyDeleteHe really didn't care about it being a warmer day, etc! His turns look like they are getting stronger - nice! And I like your food drop choices being reinforcement after or helping through what was potentially a challenge spot.
ReplyDeleteon your map, your start flag and your sixth turn look pretty close .... not judging, just pointing it out. yes we practice tracks where leg one and leg three are only 50 yds apart (that would be leg two's length) because that could certainly happen in a test. but double check yourself when you are plotting/laying - a start or a leg that are close could create that air scenting. just sharing, not criticizing. otherwise - GORGEOUS. you have judi next time and she will set you up for a track at 20 ft on the line and talk you through the hangman! so much fun!! i love me some hangman!!
