  1. Is he drifting off and coming back for food? What happens if you maintain tension but step behind him (so you step off the track)? I don’t love you pulling him back onto the track, I’d rather he brought himself back, or you aagain, maintaining tension, step off to the other side so he ends up on the track. I’m not convinced he’s determined the best way to the next food drop is to follow the track. It feels like he’s in nosework mode, following the edges of the scent to get to the next food drop. What does it feel like to you?

    1. Feels like sometimes he is tracking and sometimes he is in nosework mode. He definitely switches to nosework mode when he gets near articles. On 9/26 he did do a whole leg in tracking mode but the other 3 legs were a combination, as he got tired he switched more to nosework. Maybe I can try the scent pads without the food drops and see what happens?

    2. I’m not sure why I’m anonymous. It’s Judi. Have we tried no food? Do exactly what you’re doing, but put articles down in place of food? I think we have? Please let me know

  2. Also, if you try that, please do 2 tracks, one with only articles and one with only food….and video!

  3. Oh, and to be clear, most dogs switch to a nose work line mode when they get close to the article. For your article only track, try smaller articles (not tiny), socks cut in half or thirds—that size. And push them down into the grass.

    1. We have done no food and canning lids for articles this summer. I would like to try one track with no food and one track with food and compare. Gotta get the damn Go Pro to work too.

  4. I’m fine with that. Do you feel he does better without the food? Do you see any pattern we are missing?
