Track 1 - S track with flags every 5 yards - S5W10F5 - about 75 yard track - aged about 1 hour

I stopped when he left the track. He did pretty well though.

Track 2 - 2 turn track with scent pads - 1st leg was - S5- SP - S5- SP-W5-SP- W5F- SP- W10F5

After turn S5- SP- W5 -SP- S5W10F5 - age 75 minutes

Good start, good first turn , confusion on leg 2, overshot turn 2, got better on leg 3 once he got back on track.  Good down at article. These tracks were aged much longer than he was used to.

  1. How do you like the scent pads? Do you think they are helping?

    1. He didn’t stop to eat the food, so I don’t know if he noticed the scent pads? I think what helped the most was me seeing the next flag, so I could stop when he went off the track. I think that I need to have flags on my tracks for right now, so I know where the line is when someone else lays them.

  2. Looking back at this video….any reason you’re using a long line? The more line you have out, the more he can surf…. I actually liked the second track. I think this season we need to work on when you can let him work a problem out, and when you need to help. He clearly scented the first turn early, that’s a good time to move up on the line and support (with motion) him continuing on the track. On the second turn, he showed nice loss of scent, but rather than giving you a nice crisp turn (which they rarely do), he cast off in the correct direction. This is a great time to let him check, and then back up 3-5 steps so he’s more likely to intersect the track.
